Application crash via partially controlled destination pointer
Published Jan 23, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
Untrusted pointer dereference in Corel WordPerfect Office X6 16.0.0.388 allows attackers to crash the application with a malicious WPD file. In WPWIN16.DLL's STARTAPP function, crafted document data modifies the stack and partially controls the destination pointer passed to MSVCR80's STRNICMP procedure. A user must download and open the file; exploitation immediately terminates WordPerfect and discards unsaved application data.
