Guest-to-host takeover via malformed terminal escapes
Published Jan 23, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
Privilege escalation in Citrix XenServer 4.1 and 5.0 through 6.0.2 allows guest OS users to execute code in privileged Dom0. The remote VNC terminal emulator mishandles crafted VT100 escape sequences from a paravirtualized guest console and interprets them in Dom0. Access to a guest operating system and its VNC console is required; successful exploitation grants control of the hosting server and its other guests.
