Arbitrary code execution via overlong imported field
Published Aug 8, 2025 · Updated Apr 7, 2026
Stack-based buffer overflow in ActFax Server 4.32 allows local users to execute arbitrary code by importing a crafted .exp file. The client interface passes an overlong tab-delimited field to strcpy() while parsing the file in Import Users from File, overflowing a stack buffer. A user must import the file with the default ECMA-94 / Latin 1 character set; successful exploitation runs code with the ActFax process privileges, including SYSTEM when it runs as a service on Windows XP.
