CVE-2012-10040Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Root command execution via unsanitized device parameter

Published Aug 11, 2025 · Updated Apr 7, 2026

OS command injection in Openfiler 2.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary commands through its web management interface. The system.html page passes the attacker-controlled device parameter to a NetworkCard constructor in network.inc, which invokes exec() without sanitizing the value. Administrative web credentials are required; commands run as openfiler, whose passwordless sudo permission for /bin/bash enables root access.
