CVE-2012-10023Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Remote code execution via oversized USER command

Published Aug 5, 2025 · Updated Apr 7, 2026

Stack-based buffer overflow in Freefloat FTP Server 1.0.0 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code through an FTP USER command. The ASCII USER command handler accepts an overly long username and exceeds the authentication stack buffer without adequate bounds validation. No authentication or user interaction is required; successful exploitation overwrites control data and runs attacker-supplied code.
