CVE-2012-0828Known exploitationNetwork attack vector

Code execution via unfiltered non-BMP text

Published Feb 21, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024

Heap-based buffer overflow in XChat-WDK before 1499-4 and XChat 2.8.6 on Maemo allows remote attackers to execute code or crash the client. The client passes received UTF-8 text containing non-BMP code points into GTK text handling without filtering ranges that trigger an out-of-bounds heap write. A crafted channel or private message is sufficient on affected Windows or Maemo builds; tested conventional Linux builds did not reproduce the condition.
