Code execution via unsigned plugin updates
Published Feb 21, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
Insecure plugin updating in Tucaneando Tucan 0.3.10 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via intercepted updates. The updater downloads unsigned Python modules over HTTP or HTTPS, does not verify TLS server certificates, and installs them in the user's plugin directory. Exploitation requires control of the update site or a man-in-the-middle position and runs code with the permissions of the Tucan user.
