Installation path disclosure via missing JEXEC check
Published Jan 15, 2020 · Updated Aug 7, 2024
Path disclosure in Joomla! CMS 1.5x through 1.5.12 allows remote attackers to obtain the installation path via direct requests to unprotected PHP files. The missing defined('_JEXEC') guard lets files execute outside Joomla's bootstrap, causing PHP errors that disclose filesystem paths. No authentication or user interaction is required, but disclosure is limited to path information and does not provide code execution or data modification.
