Authenticated session compromise via unsanitized index.php parameters
Published Jan 22, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Joomla! CMS 1.7.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute script in a victim's browser. The index.php handlers accept the searchword, extension, asset, and author parameters without adequate sanitization and place them into generated HTML. Exploitation requires a victim to load a crafted request; the administrative vectors also require attacker login and can expose the victim's active session to impersonated actions.
