Code execution via unchecked arrangement-file copy
Published Aug 20, 2025 · Updated May 15, 2026
Stack-based buffer overflow in MAGIX Music Maker 16 allows context-dependent attackers to execute code through a crafted .mmm file. The .mmm arrangement-file parser passes attacker-controlled data to strcpy() without checking its length, allowing the copy to overwrite an SEH handler. Exploitation requires a user to open the file, after which code runs in the Music Maker process and can bypass DEP and ASLR on Windows XP, Vista, and 7.
