CVE-2010-3300Network attack vector

Encrypted-data disclosure via unauthenticated CBC ciphertext

Published Jun 22, 2021 · Updated Aug 7, 2024

Padding oracle exposure in OWASP ESAPI for Java 2.0 RC2 and earlier allows remote attackers to recover encrypted plaintext. The encryption API decrypts attacker-modified CBC ciphertext without first authenticating it, and distinguishable padding outcomes expose a validity oracle. Reachability requires an application to accept attacker-controlled ciphertext and reveal distinguishable decryption results; the bounded impact is disclosure of protected plaintext.
