Remote code execution via PORT parser overflow
Published Aug 21, 2025 · Updated May 15, 2026
Memory corruption in Arcane Software Vermillion FTP Daemon 1.31 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute code via a crafted PORT command. The parser advances a destination pointer for each comma and performs attacker-controlled decimal arithmetic beyond a four-byte stack buffer, permitting return-address modification. The FTP service must be directly reachable without authentication; service-mode installations do not restart automatically, limiting exploitation to one attempt before manual recovery.
