CVE-2010-10006Network attack vector

Signature disclosure via early-exit HMAC comparison

Published Jan 17, 2023 · Updated Apr 3, 2025

Observable timing discrepancy in JOpenID before 1.08 allows remote attackers to infer valid OpenID authentication signature bytes. OpenIdManager.getAuthentication compares an untrusted signature with a computed HMAC using String.equals, whose early exit leaks matching-prefix timing; the patch accumulates character differences instead. Repeated measurements and reachability of an application embedding the library are required, and the CNA rates exploitation as adjacent, low-privileged, and high-complexity.
