CVE-2009-5025Network attack vector

Account lockout via unverified password reset

Published Jan 15, 2020 · Updated Aug 7, 2024

Weak password recovery in PyForum 1.0.3 allows remote attackers to reset any user's password by submitting a known email address. The forumhelper.py module immediately generates and stores a new password, then emails it in plaintext without a confirmation token or other verification. Knowledge of an account email is sufficient to lock out that user; for the default Administrator account, the new password is sent to the software author's preset address.
