Script execution via unescaped EXIF metadata
Published Jan 13, 2023 · Updated Nov 25, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Fittr Flickr's EXIF Preview Handler allows remote authenticated users to execute script via crafted photo metadata. The easy-exif.js callback concatenates API-returned EXIF labels and values into table markup and assigns it to innerHTML without escaping. Exploitation requires a user to open a Flickr photo containing attacker-controlled EXIF fields, allowing script execution in the displayed page.
