Memory corruption via overflowing CDF metadata arithmetic
Published Jun 2, 2021 · Updated Aug 7, 2024
Integer overflows in file 5.00 allow attackers to corrupt memory when the CDF parser examines a crafted compound document. The cdf_read_property_info and cdf_read_sat functions perform unchecked integer arithmetic while processing CDF property and sector-allocation metadata. Exploitation requires the target to process attacker-supplied CDF data; public records establish memory corruption but do not identify a narrower outcome.
