CVE-2002-20002Network attack vector

Encrypted-traffic compromise via predictable key generation

Published Jan 2, 2025 · Updated Jan 6, 2025

Weak key generation in Net::EasyTCP before 0.15 allows remote attackers to disclose or modify encrypted traffic by predicting keys. The cryptographic key-generation path always uses Perl's built-in rand(), which does not provide a cryptographically strong randomness source. Network access to traffic protected by an affected client or server is required; predicted keys expose message confidentiality and integrity.
